Classic Couture and 70's European Glamour to set the tone for SA's first Veuve Clicquot Masters

Fashion prediction for the Veuve Clicquot Masters, which will take place for the first time in South Africa this year on 17 April, is that glamour is back!

The Veuve Clicquot Masters, which promises to be a glamorous day amongst South Africa's top socialites, VIPs and celebrities is an opportunity to dust of those hats, and get those designer dresses ready.

"Not since Julia Roberts trod the dibbits in Pretty woman has polo been so 'fashionable' as now," says Malcolm Kluk, South African Designer of the year for 2011.

Kluk further comments, "The very fitted has given way to a looser silhouette and everything is extremely elegant. Think Yves saint Lauren in the 70's. Real Couture. Bold colour mixes like fuschia and orange and cobalt and emerald, mixed with warmer neutrals like beige and corn and gold and black. The greys and cold colours should be pushed to the back of the wardrobe. Black is huge for a more dramatic sultry look and the romantics are more hard edge with raw edge lace worn Rock Star chic with smoky eyes and a Cleopatra bob. Throw those matric dance dresses away, give the strapless mini to the 2nd hand shop, these are good for ladies of the night only. Look to long skirts and flowing maxi dresses with plunging necklines or shapeless cocoon dresses worn to the knee. Mix everything with a white cotton shirt. High waisted trousers and a cropped matador jacket with television glasses. This is the season for dressing up. The widest brim hat or the smallest.  This is extreme elegance, European style."

Apart from fabulous fashion, event goers can expect a day filled with surprises and fun activities. The highlight, apart from the day's final Polo Match, will certainly be when renowned South African fashion icon and performance artist, Lindiwe Suttle, launches her debut single, Man Made Moon. A'capella group D7 will also be performing their innovative repertoire. Other highlights of the day include a games hour on the Polo field between Polo matches. Guests will be invited to participate in a game of Pétanque, a form of Boules, with teams of celebrities, media and other guests competing against each other for fun. Exciting prizes such as Hermés fragrances, bottles of Veuve Clicquot, Vouchers by Marios Company for Hair and designer sunglasses by The Oculus will be up for grabs. For the girls, there will also be a Pamper Station where they can get their hair done by Marios Company for Hair, and their make-up done by a Bobby Brown professional. If that's not enough, those who forgot their hats can select a fabulous hat or fascinator from the Little Hattery to finish off their look. All women are encouraged to wear hats, as is traditional at posh polo events hosted by Veuve Clicquot around the world.

The Veuve Clicquot Masters is set to become the jewel of the South African Polo Calendar and will bring a new height to Polo events in South Africa. Veuve Clicquot, who internationally already has a long history with the 'sport of kings', will for the first time sponsor a South African Polo event. With renowned international events like the Manhattan Classic (USA), and the Gold Cup (UK) in its programme, the South African Veuve Clicquot Masters will be the latest event to join Veuve Clicquot's international polo calendar, and promises to no less glamorous.
